ABOUT CREATIVE FLIP FLOPS

The idea came from seeing a similar design at an art gallery displaying wearable art by African artists. Rose adapted it and thought it would be fun to make. She had a collection of authentic African fabric in her studio and enlisted her husband, Fran, to help her cut the fabric into strips. Fran ultimately made all the Flip Flops. Each shoe needed 27-33 pieces of cloth. They are hand tied with a square knot and then trimmed.

I Touched a Sparrow by Twila Knaack

I Touched A Sparrow
By Twila Knaack

Ethel Waters: I Touched a Sparrow, “ is the story of the “golden Ethel,” the Ethel who turned in her senior years and after a remarkable stage and screen career, to singing and inspiring people about the Lord.”

Twila Knaack, who met Ethel at a Crusade and subsequently became like a daughter to her, shares the intimate details of Ethel’s last years –her declining health, her loneliness, her never-failing sense of humor, combined with her love of the Lord that endured it all.

“On September 1, 1977, one of the greatest Christian performers died. During the long months before Ethel Waters’ death, one woman witnessed the slow physical decline of this dynamic and talented personality. One woman came to love and respect the spiritual strength and emotional courage that radiated from Ethel’s final days. Now, the woman writes a tender tribute to a great lady.”
